Summer, 1947, First home on the farm was crude. No electricity, no water and dirt roads.
Home in Columbia at MU was minimal also. It was a 16' trailer if you counted the hitch. Above with Mom is Virginia Barnhouser who worked with Lois at the Ag Engineering/Extension office.
The Koken family let us park our trailer in their back yard for a couple of years. He was teaching at MU and working at graduate work. Later divorced but Helen visited us once from St. Louis.
Lois with Carl, October 1948
This was a banner year. We had our first baby, got electricity and graveled the road.

Gravel and her kittens.
Most cats hide to have kittens. Gravel wanted her box in the middle of the kitchen floor so we could watch.
Twiggy, 1971, She would readily come in the house but it was risky because she would go through a window if scared. Followed Lois around outside, or stand and peer in the window.

We've always had at least one cat so when Oscar died Alan brought us Spooky from a lady nearby. She's been here almost a year now and she's adopted the pig puppet just as Oscar did. She hasn't begun carrying him out to the kitchen to feed him like Oscar did...........yet.
We'll give her a little time. She has claimed the spare bedroom as her own and that's where we feed her so she may not feel the need to carry him to the kitchen.
At Mason's birthday bash. June, 2007
The old man's 83rd birthday
All together now!
There were not 83 candles but Sharon arranged them so they spelled 83.
Almost all lit up and ready to blow.
Concentration
Don't blow 'till they're all lit.
Lickin' the candles, Yum!!
Somebody lit them again, Quick, blow them out!
All that's left of him.
But he had two helpers on October 20.
Grit wasn't interested in Ann Coulter. He would rather see what was on the top shelf.
Oscar would simply jump up there but Grit chose to climb the rock face.
Now November 18, and he's been around for a couple of months or so. Getting more "at home" every day. He likes to sleep behind the monitor while I'm "computing".
He likes to watch too but I prefer the sleeping habit, especially when he wants to play
"cat and mouse" with the cursor.
